Qarma Musiq was founded in 2006 as a way for Malique to gain control of his publishing rights for his first solo album. Freshly released from EMI Music, Malique began work on what was to become the multi award-winning double disc album ‘OK’. The company expanded over the years, working with countless talented and hungry individuals who have each contributed to the growth of Qarma Musiq in their own way. Qarma’s unwritten code of conduct is music first, eliminating the frills and grandeur that supposedly come with running a music label. As such, the company’s purpose is clear - to manage a very minimal number of artistes, and to produce carefully crafted highly artistic works of music. Qarma’s priorities are to maintain its high standards of ethics, fair-play and respect for the musician and their music - hence the name ‘Qarma Musiq’.
“The label should never outshine the artist. For this reason, Qarma Musiq chooses to remain largely unseen.”
However, the company has not gone unnoticed. By mid-2009 Qarma Musiq sold over half a million ringtone downloads from one single alone. By the second half of 2009 and beginning of 2010, the number of downloads reached over a million. This quiet success comes from a collective number of singles and albums produced by Malique and D’Navigator, and also from K.O The Mixtape by DJ Fuzz and Malique. The works have also gained the approval of the industry in the form of five Anugerah Industri Muzik (AIM) awards and various other accolades, proving the hard work of the company directors and its associates worth it. This also proves Qarma’s point - that quality music and business success can indeed go hand in hand without having to sacrifice one or the other.
The design of Qarma Musiq’s company logo ascribes to the balancing of Chi or energy.
